Lvl 5 combustion

Once I reach lvl 5 combustion, do my small cargo automatically get the new speed boost or is only ones I build after the research? I ask only because the speed 'supposedly' doubled, but the time speed seems the same.
thanks

All of them get the speed boost.

yes... all of them (small cargos) but the level 5 engine you need to double the base speed is the impulse drive, not combustion... this one only rises speed by 10% each level upgrade

greetings mate

The speed of small cargoes is doubled once the impulse drive is level 5. After that, it is also equipped with the impulse so it gains it speed boost from upgrading that. So at level 5, it's actual speed is 10000 * (.2*5) = 20000.

the reason why the times seem the same is probably because each upgrade is only by 10% speed

Also any ship in flight have to return to base before they get the upgrade. So they won't get upgraded in transit.

Yeah, it's because you need impulse 5 for the engine upgrade. Combustion 5'll make them only a little bit faster than they used to be, but impulse 5'll make them exactly as fast as heavy fighters.

Thanks Pogue for the sig :D

Cargos are approximately the same size as fighters, but do without high-performance drives and on-board weapons to create room for cargo. The small transporter has a cargo capacity of 5,000 resource units. Because of their limited firepower, transporters are often escorted by other ships.

As soon as the impulse drive has been developed to Level 5, the small transporter flies at higher speeds and is equipped with the impulse drive.

Combustion drives are based on the ancient principle of recoil. Heated materials are expelled and propel the ship in the opposite direction. The efficiency of this drive is low, but it is cheap, reliable and requires minimal maintenance. It takes up little space and is often found on smaller ships. Because combustion technology is the basis of all space travel, it should be researched as soon as possible. Further development of this drive makes the following ships faster by 10 % of the base value per level: small and large cargo ships, light fighters, recyclers, and espionage probes.

the above quotes shows you that each increase in lvl in combustion drive will give all ships under it a 10% add-on to original speed {at lvl 10,the speed is doubles because it can be considered as 100%,that is if the original speed was 2000,at lvl 10 its 4000}

some ships get the boost like small cargo and bombers..

and also note that if the ships were in a mission,those ships will get the upgrade when they get to the planet {this is because they have to be fitted with the new engine :)}
