Online forums in this day and age are important. For gaming communities it is a way to foster good relationships between the company and its fans. For many people it is a chance to socialise with like minded people. Myself like many of the older forum users for Ogame I have benefited from this. I had a relationship through this. We have Ogame marriages and friends that span continents. We form important ties that we use for the rest of our lives and enhance our lives.

Yet online forums can be toxic. We know of subreddits and forums that the alt right and incels mobilise on. There are ways that bad management can ruin a community and decrease the appeal. So my question is this. What makes a good online forum? How is it run correctly? What does it need? Why are these things important to make a good community?
