    CONCLUSION
The community, rephrase, any community, is never satisfied. And that makes perfect sense. Just await your turn to get what you want.

    Caught up in the game

  • I just wish for one uni that GF will listen to players and give people what they want, instead of what they (GF) want.

And if they can't give the people what they want? What if what you want is different than what somebody else wants? How does GF give everybody what they want when it is impossible to please everybody all of the time?

  • Learn how to link before having the audacity to tell someone that their opinion is invalid. Saying "you can't please everyone" is a cop-out response defending a company that hasn't shown ANY signs of improvement in the past few years. We're not asking for EVERYTHING, we're asking for SOMETHING. ANYTHING. These "new features coming soon" posts are getting old and this game is nothing but a scam at this point. I feel sorry for anyone naive enough to believe otherwise. Actions speak louder than words. Keep cranking out new unis though, those always seem to show up on time. I wonder why that is?

You can point the finger at the community or the lack thereof if it helps you sleep at night but anyone with two eyes and half of a brain can see who's at fault here. Players are done falling for broken promises and GF's bottom line will only continue to suffer for it.

  • The surprise uni could include some of the following:
    0. a new ship or defence that will intrigue gameplay
    1. ...
    2. An economy feature that will make the game easier for the new or the less experienced players, like researches requiring no deut, or self powered mines ie no solar plants. Computer for optimal solution of the attacking fleet composition and ratios. No need to spend time in simulations or to have any experience or insight etc.
    3.
    4. a lot of inactives loaded with res
    6. GF credit card
    7. jobs for players, like build and maintain 10 accounts in a new uni for 2 months and earn 10k DM.

or something really clever and profitable (for €€€$$$£££ GF) like pre-built accounts, eg I would like a account with 8 planets and 6 moons and in 5 them JG, Graviton, 2 Synthesisers lvl 40 in slot 15 planets with 300 fields, 2k BCs with 3k Dessies, 1M defence and 3M economy please.
There will an items price list so that customers can choose what they need.

  • j2pift Just no that wont happen. since half the customer base is free players who dont or rarely use dark matter.
i am curious to see what the surprise uni. will be

for me i would want 6x fleet speed.

    8x economy.
    and 50% debrie ratio.

this would make for a good server. for miners and fleeters. alike since you would have faster fleet runs. and higher mine production. for the miners.
and lower costing moon shots. but that is just my idea of what it should be.

  • no mater how match speed/production percentage you put up no mater how match you trow in to Df no mater if it's ACS or not i think the bigger problem to keep the old players in game and interested is the fact that to go there you need to open a new account and start all over again , and what will you do with or other account ? will you be able to play the 2 accounts ? your alliance mates the friends/enemies you made all this years ?
The only thing that would made me play there is if its a uni were i can play with the same account that i love and toke me years to build just the way i want it ...
So how about a central universe were you can only play wend you reach a level on some research so you are able to open a portal from the uni you play on and send ships to colonize on that uni ?
you don't need to open new account no need to buy new DM you can chose to play there or not but you now that wend you reach that research level you can get a planet on that uni if you want to ...
that would really be a dream universe to me
the speed the DF the economy all those variables may be different from your home universe its up to you to chose if you want to play there or not ...

    [align=center]

  • If you ask me X4 Speed is more than enough, but X5 or X6 for a fleet speed is really to much, you must be close to computer every 10-15 min if you dont wanna become farm X( I dont have any information about this new "special uni" but I will like to see X5 economy and X3 fleet speed 8-)

  • Personally I play top rank in another universe.
It was a long road of months an months of working my butt off and climbing through the ranks. Why would I do that again? I don't need to prove myself again, I'm already up there, in my own universe, with a stable surrounding and without getting raided 10 times overnight for half a dime. I do believe that the new universes are killing maybe not so much the community's numbers, but for certain their perseverance and will to rebuild. Name ten players who stuck in a universe to actually, properly, 100% rebuild after a crash, in the latest few universes. Compare that to the many, many more in any aged universe.

I know that I'm not one of them, and that's not because I was never crashed in previous universes.

What's for sure is that the community is declining. What's also for sure is that the community is changing. The 'old schoolers' have mostly grown up and moved on, except for the occasional poor soul who stuck around. People aim for the ranks, set their standards too high and lose motivation when they fail to reach their impossible goals (oi, I want to be #1 too, like the rest of you).

To say that DM is fully responsible is short-sighted, considering most of the 'pay-to-win' features have been around for several years now. I am however, fully and utmost convinced about a key role in universe's lifespan is the ludicrous spamming of new universes. I'm sure it fits the business model of GF, since every universe has some big spenders in the beginning, but personally I didn't buy any DM till I had invested about 1,5 month of my gaming time into my current account.

Why would you rebuild if you never learnt how to construct a proper, well-balanced account (fleet:eco respect) and you are quite terrible at the game because you never survive long enough to adapt and play aged universes, when there's a new 'opportunity' to acquire top rank each month? Obviously each new attempt will lead to a failure and eventually the player will simply quit altogether.

Force people to rebuild in the universe they already spent some time in, by limiting the amount of new universes. (4 per year, tops?)
IMPROVE. THE. DARN. TUTORIAL! Teach noobs there's about a bazillion ways for them to get absolutely destroyed by an experienced fleeter.
Teach them why sometimes building a mine, or researching astro, is a far better investment than spamming another batch of ships.

For a game with a learning curve as steep as OGame's, that 500k noob protection isn't really a good idea as well. People can now live in a sanctuary-like universe, until they reach 500k point, and then they loose half their account's worth because they did not know how to fleet save properly. Obviously that will cause them to quit. Instead, it's far better for them to get crashed in the beginning, where spoils are minor and rebuilding is still swift.

Educating the noobs is GF's responsibility and by neglecting it, especially now considering the massive undertaking of V6 and the mobile application, hoping to attract fresh blood and main stream mobile game players, they are messing up a great potential. GF has to finally realize that.

    Do I count?

Agree with what you have said though.

I personally am done with this game for 2 reasons, 1 being real life commitments, and 2 that most of my friends have moved on now too. Doesn't help any that you can guarantee every new Uni is basically dead within a few months. 500 or so active accounts in a universe with 9 galaxies and 500 solar systems is just not an attractive proposition :)

Will V6 fix it? Nope. Will mergers fix it? Maybe it will reignite things for a few months in some Unis. In my cynical opinion, the game is dead. The internet is a VERY different place now compared to 2001. Gaming is a very different place. OGame is just old and on the way out, it has been going that way for a while now. I don't think it is salvageable, I just don't think people are interested in this sort of game anymore.

  • lol, I know you are/used to be the big timer in Quantum but other than that, I don't know for that part.
For the 'poor soul' part, you most definitely do count.

I don't like your grim thinking, though :golly:
Fact is that my 5 months old universe on .us has only about 100 active players remaining. Yeah, 5 months, folks. Only top 90 is over 100k general points, with the #1 around 1350k points. That's saddening, grim even, but reality. So I'm inclined to agree with Solidarity here - OGame is dying. The numbers speak for themselves. Let's hope GF manages to turn it around.

  • that is a bit of a stark out look Soli. but time will tell what the new uni will look like.

Im one of those who sticks it out and rebuilds but will from time to time start a new uni to see if i like it if i do i hang on to it. to see how well i can do.
and some times i use it as a test bed to try new tactics and adjust my main or primary uni.s game style.

  • All i know that economy will be above 10x :D

Not confirmed info, but... must be :P

  • x 7 econ, x 3 fleet

Subscription payment model replacing traditional DM

    Circular uni

    ACS

Amended v6.0 where spy and combat reports are set back to their original form....

"There isn't much that I feel I'd need/ A solid soul and the blood I bleed"

  • Maybe little offtopic but I heard that "Special Uni" will be for players with invitations only, is that true? :zpopcorn:

  • The only details we have at this time about the special uni is that it will be a "super special unique server".

Anything you hear about the uni being invitation only or having certain settings are speculation and/or rumor at this time.

I want to highlight this. Some examples from one universe-

1- Someone lost all the res he'd put on his moon. He thought it was safe from being taken there. He left no ships or defenses. He didn't even know the moon could be probed, never mind attacked.

2- I attacked someone who had left a stash of res laying around. The person sent a small force of destroyers to take on my SC+LF fleet. Minutes before they met, he sent me a PM, wishing me good luck. He didn't know a battle simulator showed I'd win easily, and didn't know about phalanxes. After I won easily, he declared destroyers useless and the account went inactive a week later.

3- One of my best buddies on my list to the game but has been growing impressively. We're both new to ogame and have been helping each other learn. Even though I started my account months before him, he shot past me in military rank months ago and hasn't been crashed once. Despite all of that, when I told him about this forum, he expressed surprise and jokingly said he knew I was holding out info.

    --------------------

Without changing the game itself, there are things that can be done to make it easier for new ppl, and it has nothing to do with revising the noob protection-
A- Massively improve the tutorial. It's pathetic. It's like a driving instructor stating that the gas pedal makes the car go forward, the break makes it stop, and then declaring you ready to drive.

B- There needs to be a stronger connection between the forum and the game. With each step of the tutorial explaining how to do different things in the game, there needs to be links to key threads here providing more details. This forum has been very helpful for me, but the connection within the game is virtually non-existent. I honestly think the only reason I found this is because I've talked to great people who've been giving me as much info as I can absorb. Otherwise, I'd have probably given up outta frustration a while ago.

C- Overall, the forum needs to be cleaned up. It's hard to find relevant matches to what I'm trying to find. Sometimes, the first few matches found are from 5 years ago or more, and after that are more recent/relevant matches. The information section needs to be cleaned up with a bunch of neon lights pointing to it, for the sake of the noobs.

    --------------------

Overall, GF has taken an interest path, it seems. Its steep learning curve seems to scare away many new players, while the decisions it actively makes seem to push away the long-standing veterans. Ogame could survive if GF chose to either work to draw and retain new players, or work hard to retain the gamers who've played this game loyally for years through all the changes. But, GF seems to have somehow chosen to do the opposite of both, eroding it's loyal fan-base while failing to attract and retain new players in droves.
