Gift Dark Matter

  • Hello OCrack Addicts,

I have one of my ally mate's birthday coming up and wanted to gift him some Dark Matter, I wanted to know how do I proceed by doing so?

    • Can I sit on his account and buy some Dark Matter?
    • Can I purchase a coupon and give him the code?

These are the only to methods that I can think of, can anybody provide me with an answer that doesn't break any rules?

    Thanks

Don't let the game play you, instead of that Vmode fleetsave and play the game whenever you want.

  • That wasn't so helpful.

I could just transfer money to his bank account, but the my point is to gift him Dark Matter, not money.

  • GF doesn't allow the transfer of DM.
    Couple of reasons.
They sell it at different rates in different countries. (and not just based on currency exchange)
Keeps players from strong arming other players into transfering DM to "stop an attack", etc.
    Profit.

It doesn't make sense to why non of us can't buy a DM Gift Coupon for example.

  • I wouldn’t mind seeing that. Other sites I posted on years ago you could purchase subscriptions for other community members. DM shouldn’t be any different.

  • Unfortunately we do not sell GF coupons at the moment.
What I am about to say is not ideal, it is in the "grey zone", but it is also the safest.
The sitting through token can be revoked by the owner at all times (he just has to log in in the account).
It is true that in a sitting you can only "touch stuff in the account" to save it in case of attack/emergency, but inserting some dark matter in an account while sitting doesn't "hurt" anyone in the server.
The purpose of the rule is to prevent someone taking advantage with the game strategy, but buying dark matter doesn't affect the strategy (as long as you are not the one investing it while sitting the account) so I don't see any problem doing it that way.

It would be even safer if the account is on vacation mode while this is happening.

This would be what I'd recommend.

  • wasnt there a case some time ago that a player was banned during the sitting because someone with a different IP bought the DM for him? It was because the said player had cheaper DM due to being in Romania if im not mistaken?

granted..you werent the CoMa at the moment, so maybe things would go different way now

but just to make it clear youre allowimg us to use sitting to buy cheaper DM?

Ofc i get that you wont discuss it (the ban) here obviously due to DPA but from experience we've been thru i think its better not to mess with buying DM since resolving those (unintentional) issues take up to a month (currently a friends card is banned, and he cannot buy DM, and the ticket is opened for 30 days so far)

edit: dont get me wrong, i dont wanna discuss bans/past CoMas, id just like a clear yes/no on this? Am I allowed to buy DM from my IP while sitting friends?

  • I am talking here about a gift done through the sitting option not leading into a sitting ban.
If this option is abused I'm sure it will end up in a payment ban (that's why I said this is a grey zone).

  • I find super unfair that Dark Matter in Switzerland Costs like 50% more than in all the other countries. My only explanation is that the value of the swiss franc was much lower when they decided the rate and now the swiss franc is much stronger. It really sucks that in almost all the countries you pay 50$ for 1.4M DM and in switzerland you have to pay 75$. And i have heard that in some countries its even cheaper than that... how can this be the case? In any other game the virtual currency is actually cheaper in switzerland than in europe due to low taxes... Why do we have the opposite case in herE?

They make the prices based on how much they believe people in those countries will be able to pay for it. That's the reason it's quite a bit higher in some countries compared to others. Is it fair that some have to pay twice as much as others for the same dm? I'd say no, but I think I'm also in one of those places with higher dm cost, so I'm biased.

However if the cost was high for everyone, then some countries wouldn't be able to use the pay2win features, giving a massive advantage to the countries that would be able to. If the cost was low for everyone, then some countries would be able to spam the pay2win features like no tomorrow, again giving a massive advantage to some countries(players).

I don't think there is a good solution to this problem. The one we have right now definitely isn't fair, but the others doesn't seem good to me either.

  • We are paying for the same good. In every other thing I can buy online I pay the same (or even less) than other countries, why cuz its a virtual thing, it has the same cost (very similar, just taxes change it )of production and distribution.

For any other game I play that sells in-game currency I pay the same or less. Also i think they would be making more profit, and i think that at the end they care more about that that fairness, otherwise they would not have stupid insta buildings and stuff like that. I would be willing to pay 50$ to buy the dark matter, but I am really hesitating for paying 75-80$ for the same, and i probably wont, even with this 50% discount.

You don't see Coca Cola bottles sold at the same price everywhere in the world. People in Africa or parts of Asia simply wouldn't be able to buy it, if it had the same price as it does in some western countries. They are just taking full advantage of capitalistic system and maximizing their profits, by making the price higher if they believe you will be able to pay more for the same good.

I don't think GF is doing the price shifting for the fairness either. Maybe you believe they would be making more profit from lowering the price, because you'd buy more dm. You could be the outlier that doesn't buy dm because of the price. While every other Swiss player buys approximately the same amount of dm as players from other countries, still paying $25-30 more and providing a higher profit for GF. Other games might agree with your point of view and have a lower cost because they believe it is more profitable.

  • Thats why I said virtual currencies, cuz its harder to prove that the costs should be different. For cocacolas sold in different countries you need to account for so many things: taxes, salaries of the person selling them, salaries of management of cocacola in that country, research in that country etc, its very very different, physical things are easier to justify.

To talk about the second point we would need to get inside data, but at the end its hard to know. However, if all the big guys like Google appstore, apple app store, steam, epic games, etc etc etc are having more balanced prices its because they have studied the topic properly. I believe more those guys than GF which is a company that is very small and barely updates its games, i really do not expect them to do a proper market study.

  • Sure, it's different with physical and virtual goods, but the point is still the same. They want to max their profits, and they are doing so by raising the price because they believe it's the more profitable option for them.

I don't know whether or not it would be more profitable, to switch from a system with different prices, to a system with more similar prices. It might be something that is preferable for larger companies, while not as preferable for smaller companies, but I don't know enough about this to give a reasonable answer.
