Gauss Cannon = Good for nothing?

  • So what is the Gauss Cannon good for? it is way to expensive, and stats are not that good based on cost. (high in crystal cost)


    i understand that the bomber doesn't have rapid fire against it, but who uses bombers late in the game anyway?


    any reason to build this type of defense ???

  • theyre good early on vs cruisers but after a while you should probably switch to an rl/hl/plasma def


    and no i really dont care about balanced defs when a horde of rl/hl/plasmas will stop more rips than a balanced def of the same value, just in case someone tries to argue

  • early on (first half year or so) ll and gauss have some value, but its trumped very fast by rl/hl/plasmas


    hl oneshot LF to stop LF raids, and the rest of the def make it require too many rips for the average daily prod + sats + cargoes (obviously you have to log in once per day, right @BlackBEERd?)

  • Gauss's crystal is better wasted on Plasmas, even if you can build few of them. Gauss are better against everything else yes, but RIPs are the main threat to any defence and Plasma is... by far, the best option to defend against it. You only need 36 Plasmas to effectively defeat 1 RIP, while you need over 200 Gauss and have much more losses. Plus the damage in round 1 is the most important, Plasmas have the potential to one-shot anything below a Destroyer, yes, even the Bomber(who nobody uses).


    Gauss are better against LF's than Plasmas, but for murking LFs you have the Heavy Laser at a far cheaper price. For the rest of the fleets you just need a good RL-LL combo.


    If the enemy however does have a vast amount of Cruisers to attack you, then Gauss do really shine since they can one-shot them, but this isn't a realistic scenario. Cruisers are easy to kill even when against HLs and LLs.
