Large shield bug ?

  • Hello !


    So I found a planet with a lot of resources, and just a large shield dome to defend.

    I sent two subsequent attacks, each one with some LC + 18 BS. Speedsim was giving me 100% victory in 1 round for those.


    My first attack resulted in a draw, and I don't understand why. The large shield dome resisted the 6 rounds. Every round reads

    The Attacker fires a total of 43 shots at the Defender with a total strength of 36.250. The defender`s shields absorb 18.090 points of damage.


    The second attack however was a success, with the large dome shield destroyed in 1 round. Again it says the same thing:

    I have no clue what's going on. Is it a bug ? Was I extremely extremely unlucky ? Am I missing something ?

  • Basically what happened is your battleships did not have enough damage left over after destroying the shield to completely destroy the hull of the shield dome, but left it damaged enough to give it a chance to be destroyed, which resulted in the two different outcomes.

  • Happened to me again. Large shield dome surviving against 10BS and 200LF.

    What ? You're implying that the hull plating is not reset after each combat ?


    Even then, why does every sim tool gives 100% victory ?

    It just makes no sense.

  • No, hull is reset after combat like all other stats are, let me explain further then. Pretend that with each round, after destroying the shield, you did 10% damage to the hull. So in a max 6 round fight, you manage to do 60% damage to the hull. You now have a 60% chance of destroying that hull, but failed. You came back a second time, and again, had a 10% chance to destroy that hull after 1 round, but succeeded in that roll making it end after 1 round.

    As to why the combat simulator is showing an incorrect result I can not say because I do not know what values you were putting into the simulator. If you gave the full values you put into the simulator then we could analyse why and likely you are missing some key detail. Speedsim has always been rather accurate but it is also now outdated so even if you entered everything correctly, you should find a newer combat simulator like trashsim.


    Also light fighters tend to be inefficient against large shield domes as they do not have enough damage to break the shields alone.

    So what you're suggesting is that I was actually lucky the time the large shield got destroyed in 1 round, correct ?


    I've switched to Trashsim since my original post to use API codes. I honestly don't know what I could miss. Techs are all set.


    Could it be that the account is engineer ? Is it shown in spy reports ?

    in the past 10 years I use 20 battleship or 20 battlecruiser to destroy large dome, they have enough firepower and 100% win in 1 round.


    but after version 7.x I met such cases for 3 times, and I've reported it.

  • Yes they were lucky to destroy the shield on a lower chance the second time.


    Engineer only affects how many defenses are rebuilt after combat. Other commanders won't have any effect on the combat. What can change how things work is this from the general class:

    • +2 combat research levels

    You can spy a player to find out what class they are.


    I doubt this is a bug unless someone can show us the combat reports of it occurring, I've heard in the new version they may have changed some of the combat priorities so things may not work how they used to.

    edit: taking advantage of the topic to ask a nooby question: Why does simulators not simulate tactical retreat ? They do give you the ratio but still consider that the fleet is staying, and you have to manually clear the ships and run sim again

    in the 3th round , defender had only large dome left, but my BC can't destroy it, although theire friepower is quite enough.
