hello quantum, I am sure some of you have been waiting for this hit. I once again come to you with a new number one. given the size of this hit and also because it has been in the making for quite a bit, I think you deserve a bit of a storytime.
a couple weeks after I merged to quantum, after giving the local fleeters time to adapt to the new situation, I started probing around and watching targets. what baffled me was that War_Machine's fleet was almost never on the ground. because if he was just fleetsaving and doing nothing else, why would he stay out of vmode and spend a couple hundred million deut every day? anyway I kept watching, but War_Machine also had 24/7 activity on his g7 moon, which made it harder to spot gaps. (this is no cheating accusation, unlike RIO, I know constant activity can be achieved with legal ways, and in this case I do believe it was.)
fast forward 3 weeks ago, it's Friday the 13th (i know, right) and I get a message that War_Machine is offline with his full fleet sitting on his g9 planet. I check his g7 moon and indeed it's dead, so I send out a mobile to the g9 planet. however shortly before it lands War_Machine becomes active again and I have to call it off.
but if I learned something in ogame, it's that people repeat their mistakes. and so days went by and I kept watching him, waiting for an opening, trying to figure out where his fleet was without spooking him. after I made the hits on HUMMER and TrashHero, War_Machine started vmoding for longer periods and I was afraid I missed the chance. but two days ago he came out again.
and so yesterday was the day I decided War_Machine's neglection of basic fleeting principles couldn't remain unpunished any longer. I had a strong suspicion of where his fleet was, and I had a window where I assumed he wasn't around. to be sure, I sent mobiles to all his planets, all landing at roughly the same time:
the plan was to probe his planets before, and let the one land where the fleet was. but before probing all planets and potentially making others aware of what was going on, I first probed the one where I suspected the fleet in the first place. and, et voila, it was right there:
the mobile landed, I mooned up, jumped fleet and launched (but not without accidentally sending the BS on transport instead of adding them to the ACS, pro fleeter right here, bye 1.3bn deut).
as with all of these kinds of hits, I couldn't watch it, and walked away from my computer. when the impact time came I checked ogame and there was no CR. 30 seconds, no CR. 60 seconds, no CR. at that point I knew I succeeded. 2 minutes later, still no CR. my fleet came back already, still no CR. a whole 5 minutes and 25 seconds later, finally the CR. and the rest is history.
profit of this hit is around 710bn after wreckfield. as you can see I lost a lot of deuterium though, so hit me up if you're selling some.
War_Machine didn't say anything after the hit and vmoded couple of hours later. I wish you all the best whatever you decide to do.
