Merchant trader rates? seriously?

  • So i see the merchant trader ingame has some bad and good rates sometimes.

But when your trying to trade your metal for either crystal or deuterium it can get pretty bad.

like sometimes iv seen it as bad as 3.35:1 ration for deuterium.

how can the game not allow players to trade with such a rate yet the game offers you that same "unallowed" rate WHEN YOU EVEN USE DARK MATTER!???

    seriously WTF?

  • The Max is 3:1 same as in game so you’d have to provide a screen shot of what you’re talking about.

When selling Metal, Metal is fixed at 3 and Deuterium can range from 0.7 to 1. So 3:1 is the best you can get, worse rates like the OP mentioned are quite common.

The reason why those rates aren't allowed between players is to prevent Pushing.

so dark matter is there to help you get a worse rate than with players?

  • I misread the post but yeah. If you’re after a specific trade rate it’s often cheaper to arrange it with another player. It is pretty rare to find someone willing to trade at that max trade rate though. Most universes these days the average seems to be 2.5-1.5-1 for trade rates

  • I think the original poster has a point.

I use merchant every now and then. Would get the 3:2:1 rate in 4-5 tries on average. Now its close to 10.

Glorious 1 is back in town. If the next couple sentences make sense to you, you are at risk.

At best, you will be baalized. At worst, your physical and mental well-being is at stake. You will likely forget what uninterrupted sleep is. Your immune system will steadily decline. Your will to fight will be broken. You will regret having invested so much into nothing.

  • Well, it is totally fine to "punish" pay to win sometimes with these random rates. After all, the merchant options massively decrease activity and communication among players - because it is simply not necessary anymore - except if you find some poor souls that sell you deut for 2.5;1,5;1 just such that you can trade that at the merchant for 3:1. So, honestly, punish us DM users a bit, it's fine

  • It's more like offering a substandard service for the same cost hiding behind the randomness excuse.

  • you pay for convenience. Insta trade. Or you set a trade with a friend or ally or customer. Maybe tomorrow you trade. Maybe 2 to 4 hours you get your rez. Maybe 72 hours later.

not sure what you are arguing.

It's none of your business why i pay for whatever. Merchant has become a degraded product compared to couple weeks ago. The odds of a decent rate is nerfed so you have to pay more for a decent trade.

It's like superball ticket used to come with a 1/360m odds of hitting it . Now you have a 1/1bil probability. And they didn't bother telling you that the product is now of diminished value.

Why / when / what i buy is an entirely different and irrelevant issue.

I don't disagree with you that the main reason for random rates is Gameforge profit driven. But in the end I would lean towards the argument that it needs to be somewhat expensive to not make communication with players completely obsolete. Let's talk more about metal packages being too cheap (I buy 300 when it's at 30% discount - that is basically 80M points for a price that does not hurt me at all; it is not balanced) :) So at least make me pay DM for exchanging this metal to something useful - that's all I am saying

This is irrelevant too. All the posters do have legitimate points which do not belong in this topic.

    the relevant argument would be;

    - Metal packs used to give a full days of production, whereas after an unannounced tweak, it now provides 75% of daily production, and the price remains the same.

  • Merchant hasn’t changed at all in the last few weeks. I called a merchant twice last week to sell deut. I got 3:2:1 in one case and on the other time I was damn near close to that. So no, merchant has not been “nerfed”

What's your experience with merchant discount event? I almost always happen to have horrid rates during 2k events which make the discounted merchant end up more expensive than the regular price.

  • I’ve never had an issue with merchant to be honest. I’ve hit it twice maybe 3 times sometimes to get better rates. But overall you tend to get rates that fall in line with standard in game trade rates. The other thing is, it’s cheap. On average it might cost you just over $1 to call and get good rates if you have to hit the button a couple times. Even for a f2p player who collects DM via expos that’s still a very low cost compared to many other things in this game.

    Both are not true.

Read again. He's saying that the merchant's DM cost is because of convenience, not because of good rates. "you pay for convenience" is a general statement, that "you" isn't referring to you.

Of course, the example in the quote is not true. It was a hypothetical, more clear-cut example of what a degraded GF product (metal pack) would look like. And the relevant response in such a scenario would not be "metal packs are unbalanced anyway", or any other convenience, interaction etc. related argument for that matter.

But you guys seem to have taken a liking to running off tangents, so good luck.
