decouple bonus from position

  • So the suggestion is to try and decouple the res bonus from position to planet values(size, temp) instead.

Deuterium has always been tied to temperature and thats fine and makes a fine line that the higher position the lower the temp.

But what if crystal bonus was tied to planet fields, simply that the bigger the planet the bigger the goldilocks zone where crystals can form

Unfortunately there isnt really a third number for metal, unless you use diameter or position.

But it would incentivize new players to select larger planets than they would otherwise, and prevent a bit of that long term regret some have of keeping a too small planet.

the bonus production procentage range can stay the same. the 35% extra crystal or metal

  • This would make slot 8 have both metal and crystal bonus maxed out, since 8 makes the highest planet's.

A balanced solution needs to take all into account, and to make any slot attractive. They're never going to do that because slot 8 and 15 relocations bring a lot of money.

  • I agree with Kelenken. The only thing GF could change is to boost Crystal production bonus on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd slot. For first to 80-100% to keep up with overall MSU production of the other slots (8th and 15th), so there would some sort of balance between Metal, Crystal, and Deuterium. And I think this would bring a lot of income to GF than merchant trades for only 3500 trades (that you can basically build up to 3:2:1 ratio for free from expedition rewards). I am talking to you, GF *wink* *wink*

  • Or you could make it so the metal bonus is slot 1, 2 and 3. And have the crystal bonus be at 6-7-8-9-10.

This way you can go for colder smaller planets and get more deu. You can go for large planets and get a crystal bonus (which isn't that great because you produce little crystal anyway). Or you can get a small planet with little deu production, but high metal bonus increase (You naturally produce a lot of metal so even small boosts end up being high value).

If you want to spam metal mines and/or metal packages and convert metal a lot, go slot 1. If you want a long term planet with a little crystal bonus, go for slot 8. If you want a lot of deu to trade, convert or use, go for slot 15.

I think if you do that, all it changes is people going after slot 1 and 2 instead of slot 8.

  • Really though? You lose basically all your deuterium production. Sure, if you spam metal packages and convert a lot, then slot 1 will be best. But I think slot 8 planet moved to slot 15 will be better. At least I think my suggestion is more balanced than what we have now, where slot 8 is the obvious option.
