If you ever wondered why forums are dead

  • As a returning player I've been wondering why is .org forum/board so dead, discord is nice for quick chat but it's horrible for longer posts and guides.

And then we get this [TOT: 8.299.895.000] Shark vs. hellentry (A: 202.740.000, D: 8.097.155.000)
Finally an interesting topic in months and it gets instantly closed by Mods, for what? At best light provocation, since when have ogame players become so soft?:beware:
No, seriously, how do you expect to keep new players when all the guides on forum are outdated, youtube videos are literally non-existent for various reasons and then Discord is just awful to scroll through.
Certainly keeping forum dead is a right way to go? At this point the only reason I have to check board is to see what events are upcoming and check what kind of fleets are running around.
Seems like you are actively discoraging player interactions, this used to be what game was about back in the day. The stories of countless sleepless nights waiting for a perfect time to strike, years of rivalries, salt, emotions, wars... Those were the things that kept servers alive and playerbase active...

  • Can't say he is wrong. A little healthy light banter occurs making the thread interesting and active then everyone gets warnings, threads get censored and warnings and bans from bored moderators moderating boards are handed out. I just want to say [Censored - Please refrain from making CR threads interesting].

  • I think moderator Koakuma did a great job

There is trash talk and then there is flame and then there are moderators to decide what is acceptable and what isn't

Bear in mind forum social network is a place where in 10 years people may still be able to read back comments

  • Alright, I won't comment on the example, as I am well aware that these discussions should be clarified elsewhere.

In a general sense, I understand where you are coming from. Light banter, teasing, rivalry etc are needed to have some fun. The issue is that we are not homogenous personalities. Even if it was only one country it would be impossible to be able to be of one opinion. Org has always been even more difficult because here we have so many different people from many different countries and cultural backgrounds. What's acceptable there might not be here, and so on. It's a real challenge where to draw the line for staff. I many discussions about this internally back in the day. Important is to communicate and to be able to explain a decision. I'm not sure if I would have closed the thread, but I haven't seen the posts before they were edited.

We are always looking for new moderators!

  • Beautifully said. I can't say it any better so I will just add that I am also a critic of those who constantly complain about moderator decisions when they have never held any significant comparable positions themselves. You will never please everyone and you should put yourself in their shoes, both the moderators and the players you are engaging banter with before you blast off that message.

A good example would be that guy complaining about not being able to find changelogs and when a particular change took place and I did it with one simple google search.

Moderators have also made many wise decisions and never receive credit for them. I appreciate the mod team and I try to engage them with respect. If everyone applied this to the players as well, Ogame would be even better and more addictive.
