Resource Package Pricing Balance

  • The issue is that the Resource Packs are priced in a way that Metal Packs have a much larger return per DM spent vs what you'd see with the Crystal or Deut packs as they simply follow a 3:2:1 trade rate and completely ignore the higher cost of Crystal/Deut mines.

Below is an example from my US Volans account that has 16 planets (most slot 15), and M 45.8, C 38, D 43.1 average mines.

    • 1x Metal Pack (42k DM w/Sale): 1,179,276,968 Metal, or 28,078 Metal per DM
    • 1x Crystal Pack (84k DM w/Sale): 390,716,289 MSU, or 4,651 MSU per DM
    • 1x Deuterium Pack (126k DM w/Sale): 1,488,663,504 MSU or 11,815 MSU per DM

Points wise, that's 280m Metal Mines, 110m Crystal, and 399m into Deuterium Mines. Between that larger Deut investment and the Slot 15 position I focus on, you'd expect Deut packs to be the best option for me, but as the above shows, they clearly are not.

What this leads to is anyone not doing a Slot 8 setup being left behind as soon as they show any interest in buying the resource packs. And given that a slot 15 Deuterium setup has larger investment costs associated, seems like a missed opportunity to further monetize the playstyle that slot has.

As such, my suggestion is that the pricing for each res pack should be 60k base.

    • For those of you with a slot 8 metal setup, nothing would change.
    • For those like myself with a slot 15 setup, this would make Deut packs competitive.

This would make the experience much easier for a wider range of players, and give those non-slot 8 playstyles more options to compete.

  • Fun fact, even with full P15 and deut packs at 60k, Metal Pack can still be better depending of your mine levels, I think that would always be true for crystal and P1 but didn't do the math there.
Anyway this is an obvious change they should have made long ago.

  • As a fellow slot 15 warrior I completely agree with your point of view. I started the slot 15 strategy way before resource packs were even implemented, but the game is steering towards building metal mines for the biggest gains now.

Pricing each resource pack the same will definately make this strategy more viable. I really enjoy making as much Deut per week as possible and really don't care about metal.

  • Truth be told, in terms of balancing, I'm not very good at analyzing and coming to a conclusion. I'd need some more discussion with respect to this to make an opinion, and this is coming from a slot 15 deuterium player.

  • Just look at the MSU numbers per DM in the first post, why would anyone even consider buying a crystal or a deut pack. A metal pack is 6x more cost effective as a crystal pack and 2.4x more cost effective as a deut pack in the example mentioned above.

While we're at it, let's look at an example of a lower ranked player with 13 planets (mix of slot 8 and 15 planets) and mines approximately M42/C34/D37:

    • 1x Metal Pack (42k DM w/Sale): 554,604,254 Metal, or 13,205 Metal per DM
    • 1x Crystal Pack (84k DM w/Sale): 172,521,684 MSU, or 2,054 MSU per DM
    • 1x Deuterium Pack (126k DM w/Sale): 365,587,536 MSU or 2,901 MSU per DM

This equates to a metal pack being 6.4x more cost effective as a crystal pack and 4.5x more cost effective as a deut pack.

  • Good evening everyone,

I would like to copy the message posted a few moments ago on a suggestion also relating to resource packages.
