Efficient start as a collector

  • Howdy!

Experienced player here, but I never really played as a collector and I'm looking for few tips on how to start effectively. I would like to avoid some traps that would hinder my account development in the future.

Do you bother with expeditions as collector? I was thinking about sending only pathfinder for merchat, dm and items.

How do you locate planets? Not sure if I should space them over all galaxies or maybe stick to one or two galaxies so I can transport resources faster.

Should I prioritize any specific mines and worry about amortization later? Or maybe I should follow amortization from the beginning and rely on mechant?

    I appreciate any suggestions :)

edit: I know disco is the way to go, but I got bored with this playstyle already. Want to try something refreshing

    1. Only PF is fine, but I don't think it's worth your time assuming you didn't want to be discoverer.

    2. Stick to a few galaxies so you can transport res faster, but don't put all planets within 50 systems like some people too, that invites fleeters to move in and farm.

    3. Follow amortization and use merchant liberally if you can afford it.

The best way to start out as a collector is to pick discoverer, and hope you'll later get a class change item for free in rewards. If you pick collector, then you should expect to be at 1m points when the discoverers are above 10m points.

I wouldn't. Not only do you have less slots, you'll also only find a 15th of what a discoverer would find. The only time I'd bother to send out expeditions, is during x9 dm events, or very early on if there were no inactive accounts around.

All of them in slot 8 for the maximum increase in metal production. Multiple planets in the same system isn't great, you'll have less production because there aren't two 8th slot in the same system. In regards to how far you want between your colonies, it's up to you. Close colonies makes it faster to collect, but one colony from a fleeter will be able to hit all your planets. If you spread them out, it'll take longer to collect, but it'll also be less likely that all your planets will get raided.

    It's the most efficient.

Don't fall into the turtle trap. Defenses are a waste of resources. Someone will purchase enough resources, to make enough rips, to go through whatever defense you've managed to make. You're way better off, if you just make enough defense, to protect the resources, that's being produced while you're offline.
