Probably too late for this round of merges, but here's a suggestion for the next round of merges in a couple years...

When merging into a new uni, there is a possibility that a player's planet will not end up at the same coordinates, due to a planet already existing in that galaxy/system/slot. In this case, the coordinates are changed to a nearby slot, and the player is provided with a free relocation boon. If I remember correctly, the planet's temperature is maintained in the new slot (aka, a -169C temp slot 15 planet that ends up in slot 1 will still be -169C), but slot based resource bonuses are lost (aka, a slot 8 planet moved to slot 11 will lose the +35% metal).

I propose that auto relocated planets maintain their original temp AND the metal/crystal bonus of their original slot, in addition to the free relocation. if they decide to use the free relocation to move their planet, they forfeit their original slot bonus and end up with the resulting slot bonus. Note that this can be a negative as well - if a planet is relocated from slot 4 to slot 1 during a merge, the player will not receive the +40% crystal bonus from the slot unless they use their free relocation.

This will reduce the impact of merges on players that have invested time/DM in getting their planets into a particular slot, and end up in a reduced galaxy universe where there are not enough of the most desirable slots for all players.

  • i second that, i have 14 perfect 320+/-10 slot 8s on farmville and unless the uni is target im out, took way to long to get them in order to just get slot 9 in merger and get shafted.

the merger script to protect the temp was written prior to slot ress bonus update so its only fair to update the script to reflect those changes too

  • a -169C temp slot 15 planet that ends up in slot 1 will still be -169C

You will never have a slot 15 planet moved to slot 1.The planets that you had on slot 13 - 14 - 15 will be moved to slot 13 - 14 - 15.If those positions have been taken you will be moved next system... if the next system has slots 13 - 14 - 15 taken you will be moved again next system. So... from 1:1:15 you can end up to 1:15:15 or 1:15:14 or even 1:15:13 but never on 1-12 from position 15 - 14 -13.

You can also give yourself a free relocation by asking a friend to block the position (or every position) you have on the target uni with a deleted mobile colony.I did test this in the past and the game will give a free relocation even if the planet moved in same system from position 15 to 14.

Also (tested) any colony from position 12 to 4 will try to be moved inside de 12 - 4 slots (same for 1 to 3).If all 12 to 4 is taken and position 13 / 14 / 15 are free the colony will not take those slots and will be moved next system until there is a free 12 - 4 position. So a 1:1:12 can get to 1:8:4 and yes a colony from 1:1:8 moved to 1:8:11 will loose the metal bonus.

  • Good idea, and while we're at it, position bonuses should be rebalanced around a 3/2/1 ratio so that every spot enables viable playstyles. No one likes to be pigeonholed into slot 8/15 because it is just so much better than anything else.

It can't be that hard to make it that every position earns comparable MSU over time. Even the field bonus from slot 7-9 should be baseline, it makes no sense from a gameplay perspective to force players to colonize those spots other than selling relocations.

  • Can't you just relocate your planet with the free relocation that comes from its position being changed?

If there are slots available in your preferred position. If all the slot 8's are full, you're out of luck

I do understand that you don't want to take any risk in losing any of your precious max metal bonus planets, but every single one 8th slot taken in a whole server is a rather extreme scenario, don't you think?

Anyway, i'm totally against this suggestion because it would break the gameplay elsewhere. Specifically, the common strategy of settling into a good spot and relocating in either a hot place (for graviton / crystal bonus) or a cold place (for deuterium bonus) would vanish.
