Version 11.15.0 is emblematic of Modern OGame's constant attempts to worsen player experience

  • I would assume a highly significant amount of the player base relies on add-ons to improve the quality of life when it comes to playing ogame, this has been the case throughout the years.

    Man, everyone here is angry about the add-ons not working anymore, and i fully understand that, but do you realize it's not just that?


    Let's take a look at the espionage screen, which IMO is the worst offender in this dumpster fire.


    Now you have a single row, where only the grand total of resources is available, no indications of fleet or defenses present whatsoever, and the command buttons are so small they're basically usable.


    In order to see more, you have to click on the row, and at this point you can see if there are any fleet units or defenses, with their strength in resources, but you still have no idea what kind of fleet of defenses are actually present, if there are abms, what are the military techs etc.


    To see what you actually need to see, you have to click a second time, to open up the detail popup. But thanks to all that useless graphics that is now there, a regular computer screen is nowhere close to contain even the really useful stuff so you have to scroll up and down. Moreover, being it a popup, you can see only one at a time.


    It's not just the addons. It's the whole update that is pure, unadulterated, weapons-grade garbage.


    And the only answer we got, apart from the corporate mumbo-jumbo that, let's be honest here, is basically a prepackaged script to be used every time they screw up something (which is quite often) is: we will keep it that way and we'll fix the problems eventually, somehow.

  • Well lets think about why the update is bad.
    The update is mainly bad because the lack of addons. Id like to think that this update COMBINED with working addons, is a better way forward than before the update.
    I believe that this update is a stepping stone for GF and they will have an easier and better way to move forward from this update than they had from the previous one.


    Its not like the game is lagging. Its not like they broke some major mechanic.
    Arguably the goal was to make the UI simpler and smoother and it has done the opposite, but its nothing a well made addon can't fix. Most of the issues are just extra clicks.
    If you played the old patch without addons Im sure you wouldnt love that either.

    So MY approach is - GF has heard our complaints and are working on improving it - we sit back and wait for GF and addonmakers to (hopefully) work together to fix this, and then after that has been done, we can re-evaluate if this update really is as bad as it feels.

  • Hi, I'm reading your statement and as well GF, the whole time I'm thinking is why are you trying to deceive us with nice words!!!

    Where have you been all this time and why did you wait and keep silent as a team? You can come anytime to talk to players, but you not.

    We've been playing this game for years and we know how it goes. We also know how things are going in your team and we know what you think about GF.

    So why is it necessary to constantly justify and defend GF inability?

    The game was unplayable for years, because GF screwed up its development, players went out of their own way and made addons to make the game progress (a big thank you to all the people who took part in it, without you it would just be shit).


    Everything that worked in the game and that the players liked, you gave away.

    For years, you've been watching people complain that the gameplay is destroyed by the developers.

    You as a team, as your community, never stand up and defend the interest of players.

    Thousands of players left because of you, thousands more will leave.


    You only try to justify everything and somehow fix it.

    How long do your repairs take?

    We waited years for LF, more years until you were able to put it to older universes. The game has cheaters for years and it is tolerated by you. And that's what I called the minimum of problems for all those years. Now we will be waiting for years until you get the game working.


    Nobody suffers except the players.

    Stop tolerating and excusing mistakes, things will not get better this way, never!

  • Theres no point in trying to defend what was done.After mistake like this everyone who gave green light for this patch should be removed from their position cause they obviously dont have skills to do their job.Everyone with medium knowledge of the game would see in first 30 seconds that this patch is bad and thats gonna create one of biggest issues in 20+ years that this game exists so can we please have someone who knows the game to call the shots on these things instead of those who aint good for anything but summing up how much money they made from selling packages and destroying game.

  • Game Forge doesn't care...they'll most likely just let us eat cake.

    Queue up the 120% DM sale in conjunction with a merch sale and pack sale...and a month-long login/rewards event in June.

    If you go to filter and turn everything off you will get a semi back to what it looked like before the update. I will not take credit for this as a member of our alliance SMOKE told me to turn it off and it is much better, give that a shot .

  • We can talk until the cows come home about this particular update but there is a deeper problem that goes way beyond this instance. It is summed up well in the thread title.


    Ogame constantly worsens player experience

    This isn't the first time and it certainly will not be the last. Many fundamental problems contribute to this.


    Lack of play testing or efforts to make the game enjoyable

    If there was any play testing at all by GF, this update would not have seen the light of day. Instead of using their test server the way they should, they rely on add-on developers from their playerbase to do the hard work and make their game playable. These developers don't actually receive a single lick of appreciation from GF but rather get a spit in the face by having game updates constantly break these tools.


    Lack of communication and consultation with the playerbase

    Let's be honest. If it wasn't for the amazing playerbase of this game it would be long dead. It is the players whose pockets keep the servers running. It is dedicated players that volunteer to create tools that make the game playable. It is player interaction that makes the game fun. Even those who manage the community are simply volunteers from among the players.


    Yet we see nothing that suggests Gameforge put any effort into listening to what the players want.

    All we see is a barely functioning game full of bugs.

    We see gamebreaking balance issues.

    We see crappy event after crappy event.

    We see poorly handled merges stuffed between dogshit updates to create a huge dogshit sandwich.

    We see a barely working combat simulator.

    We see a sad excuse for a mobile app.

    We see "features" being added that absolutely nobody asked for - honestly nobody cares about moon icons.

    And when we try to let Gameforge know what we want, we see a list of suggestions carefully formulated by the playerbase with the only response being "submitted to GF", probably sitting in their junk mail folder.


    GF have confirmed they won't roll this update back, but regardless of the direction this particular issue takes, it won't be the last issue that causes outrage among us.


    Not sure how much longer I will stick around but I think it's about time I started exploring other games. Other games which I'm not allowed to mention because Gameforge are a jealous bunch. Games with actual meaningful updates over the years to keep the gameplay fresh and enjoyable.

  • Even though I believe this update to be, in aggregate, the single worst pile of steaming excrement I have ever seen in my 20 years playing o-crack I have to admit that most page loads while moving through the game are faster


  • I know we are moving into a modern age, the age of technology, where there are certain design specifications, but I can't get used to these icons for the blind in general or double fingers. I have mixed feelings, to laugh or to be angry.


    the deuterium icon looks like a planet, nothing in common with a resource (metal and crystal are too different) but the craziest one is.... the FOOD. it's a damn corn, or something similar, a fruit/vegetable, it's totally unusual for OGame. From spaceships we return to the tribes (ugly old game from my perspective) to gather the harvest :lol::lol::lol:

    We don't need icons everywhere!! Or at least add an option to disable them!! Don't expect 3rd party extensions to do this for you as they don't get something for buying dark matter!!

  • Oh, here's another nice bit i just found out: when you hit something with IPMs, it tells you what defenses are present BEFORE the impact, but not after.


    Completely worthless. How could anyone in his straight mind greenlight this?

  • Lord evilsnake rarely hits players, but he does probe players (especially foxtrot1993) occasionally, just in the event he can have an easy attack for huge profits. With that being said, Lord evilsnake was frustrated yesterday because for the life of him, it took him forever to figure out if a player has fleet or not. The new design is just weird. Yes, OGame needs UI modernization, but combining the old design with a new design is just downright ridiculous and does not mesh well. If OGame wants to modernize themselves, they need to start from the bottom to the top. You can't build a house without a solid foundation. What GameForge did here was take a house that does NOT have a roof, and put solar panels on it without the foundation of a basic roof. Just stupid.

  • Today, May 24, we updated PTS with the newest game version 11.15.1.

    Changelog:

    - Issues with internal server errors regarding mobile API have been fixed

    - Issue with message indicator becoming "NaN" inside the inbox has been fixed

    - Added additional metadata to enable third-party tools to utilize the data

    - Increased the max number of filters in messages from 6 to 9

    - Reduced the size of resource icons and adjusted the view to display all resources
