Creating a post so that people can talk and discuss the new cosmetic changes... So, what do players think?

For me, I think it's showing that the game is moving to a more mobile-game centric approach which worries me (given approved add-ons we all use) and I'm a little disappointed that there's no 'functional' change brought with the cosmetic changes.

Changed the title of the thread from “Avatar & Achievements” to “Avatar & Achievements - Discussion Thread”.
  • "Big" update thats probably there to make game more visually attractive to bring newer generations into game cause we oldies give no F about it.

I wouldnt care that they spent time on this if there werent better things to do like doing something about destroying unis with metal packages,MD's being too easy since class update or maybe even showing some gratitude to players by making DM cross account so we can use DM from accounts which are stuck on dead UNIs

I hope these seasonal UNIs wont be localized cause putting all communities on same server would actually be fun asf especially in combo with some balanced UNI settings like 2x fleet 4x eco 16x research 0.5 consuption 50% DF and empty/inactive systems on,that would probably attract both miners and fleeters so after long time we'd feel how its to play in crowded UNI

  • People ask for balance, GF delivers achievements and racoon portraits. OK.

The concept of seasons is particularly ill-suited to a game with no end-game, you just scale continuously over the span of years.

And considering how much dedication it takes not to be killed in this game, I actually don't understand how players are expected to juggle multiple accounts to get all the goodies.

I appreciate the effort to bring something fresh, but I'm not sure that's what the game needed the most. MD being too fast/strong, BCs and cruisers being too good and killing fleet variety, and the whole artefact system are much more pressing matters.

  • For player profiles we should be able to choose our own pictures like here in forums, instead of choosing from AI-generated raccoons. I don't know how to moderate it though.

  • Well an word from an old generation player...

For once, seeing gf moving in some direction, updating, "upgrading game" , i can't say no, right? We all are already, atleast most accustomed to all these changes in past years.. Atleast if you look at the "positive" , even tho there isnt much significant player base like in late 2007-2010 or so, they are still working slowly and keeping the game alive, instead of shutting it down kinda thing that happens to most online games recently..

THis change is kinda MOBA or FPS driven as i see, since you can change custom stuff, get "achievements" and from what i read "PREMIUM SHOP" ... with season hapening each X amount of time, same like in LoL, PUBG and simmular games... so it means also aditional "If you want something> visit Premium shop > BUY" ... BUt atleast this time you are buying visuals and making your profile look like a "Frozen PRinces empire" ? hehe ( this was kinda joky ) .. BUt this way we are supporting servers, game, and all the amasing things we still love and play for after all these years..

I could agree that we should be able to chose things, not AI generated content, but is what it is... You can do a thing like my favorite "LoL" hero Kha'zix > EVolve and adapt > Overcome" he says somewhat simmular :) SO yh, generally i love the fact that we can customise our planet pics, since all these boring blue-green slot 8 planets unlike pinkish reddish 13-15 slots are kinda boring :)) So i support that... Empire view in additional when u click a player profile, points and etc, is kinda shortcut like some addons to check its stats on one place instead clicking each highstore tab separatly...

But to summ it up, I LOVE that they work on game i've been "in love with" since 2006/7 ... I got over Pay2win thing, since its all skills later that counts and a good crew that keeps you going like in good old days! So i'd like to thank gf working on our passion and game that we "all" love and still play! If there is spot for improvement and more player feedback ? YES? but time for that might come, when all these beautifull suggestions will "catch a wind" and move towards GF implementing them... UNtil then > Let's play and have FUN cause that's what matters in the end , this is just a GAME! :)))

  • Hmm, I don't understand. Maybe I'm lazy or a profiteer, but why do they think that a player spends more time in the game for a few skins? If they do it in such a way that the Avatars have some special ability/effect on the acc and the planet skins are also given something extra for the specific planet that I set, then I would turn the situation around by a thousand. But like that?Of course, I will definitely look at the posts without stressing about it, but I don't think that's why I'll start a new server every quarter, I'll just click it if it's easy.Anyway, the initiative itself would not be bad, but it could have been thought about a little more. I understand that very young people appreciate these things more, but I don't think they are the majority in the game at the moment and it won't attract them either...

  • I will give a positive update for once, i did not expect Ogame to have a active development team doing some stuff behind closed doors. I think its a good change even though it's on the low end of things we really need.

I look forward to what this update brings.

I would like to know what these seasons are and how they are envisoned.

I would like to give an idea that just popped into my head that players can "opt in" for a seasonal server.

Their account gets transfered to this seasonal server, they have their season and at the end gets merged back to their old uni.

This way, players from all servers can opt in to play against each other for a limited time.

Do want to make it fair that no metal packages can be used during this season and players of equal size play against each other.

playing against another player that is x10 your size is bullshit ofcourse and you have no chance to do anything against such a player.

  • Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t expecting lifeforms 2.0 or anything but this is just painting a pig black and white and calling it a cow. Where’s the beef? This is all just fluff and no game mechanics involved as far as I can tell.

  • Avatar: couldn't care less, this is not tinder, or twatter or whatever

    Achievents: wait and see

    Seasons: wait and see

Planet skins: this is possibly the worst offender of all, the shared planets look like they have come straight out of a Midjourney instance that has been trained wrong on purpose. At least the standard ones look like real planets.

  • It looks interesting at first glance, but then I'm unclear on what they're trying to achieve with this. A video announcement from GF would've been nice, maybe on YouTube.

So, if I get this right, if I want a skin (which a lot of people were screaming for - 10 years ago) I have to start a new account in the season server and try to compete with people, which isn't fair on people who don't want to spend on a 12-week server.

The other concern I have is whether there is any kind of paywall behind this change. For example, if I want to change my avatar, do I have to use DM? If I want to change my planet skin, is DM involved?

Why not just give the option to merge your current account to a global season server to compete, and 12 weeks later, you'll be back in your universe? This could take place once a year, and the remaining season-server can happen within .org.

I mean, it's a super cool development if executed right, but in my opinion it's 10 years too late for this.

Lastly, I'm not sure if I'm blind, but when is this getting released?

Don't let the game play you, instead of that Vmode fleetsave and play the game whenever you want.

  • Lastly, I'm not sure if I'm blind, but when is this getting released?

It's already online on the public test server so after they've fixed all the bugs found it can't be that far away from release.

The other concern I have is whether there is any kind of paywall behind this change. For example, if I want to change my avatar, do I have to use DM? If I want to change my planet skin, is DM involved?

You can most likely switch freely between the ones you have unlocked.

Free ones from achievements too, not all from seasons. Luckily this is all just cosmetic and 100% optional.

  • Are there any rewards for getting the achievement other than a space racoon avatar?

something actually usefull ingame, a building upgrade for free, more items to use etc etc, anything actually usefull at all?

if there is nothing worth "getting" from these achievements in that regard i am totally not interested in playing this achievement game.

Someone made some screenshots and one of the achievements is to reach deuterium synthesizer 57. which is only achievable when spending a shitload of money on DM to buy metal packages.

This looks to be just another way to try and milk the player base.

deut synth 57 cost 1.6tr metal and 544bn crystal.

Going from lvl 50 to 57 is a total investment of 4.7tr metal and 1.570tr crystal.

Who's this new feature for? looks to be just another way to beg for money.

    pasted-from-clipboard.png

Atleast you get a AI generated cartoon as reward.

That must be worth atleast 3000 euro right people?

  • Doesn't appear to be any...and based on what I'm seeing there probably should be...level 37 astro, getting 10 trillion res from expos, level 35 fusion reactor...lmao.

It certainly looks this way right now. Who knows maybe they've got something else in the wings but right now this update looks about as exciting as these various updates that are nothing but "background changes"

  • Is there going to be any ingame bonusses for achieving certain achievements, like +1% metal, or certain planet skins giving a boost to crystal mines. Or is it all just cosmetic

  • 12.0 is a update for the whales, not for the normal people. move along people, nothing to see here.

  • Hopefully those are only placeholder values, but you never know.

This update is IMO a desperate attempt to incite players via FOMO to sign up on new servers so the whales have food and spend more money.

Unless season servers have crazy settings and a definite end of life / systematic merge, it just doesn't fit the game.

Oblivious suits can't do anything else than follow stupid trends in gaming that don't even apply to their own game.

Hell, I would rather pay a small monthly fee to play on a no pack / no merchant server rather than this.

  • On the other hand would it be interesting or fun if for example the metal mine achievement maxed out at level 40, everyone globally would have it unlocked pretty much.
