Hi, I didn't have much to do yesterday so I thought about how to make a better ogame in my perspective, from scratch.
Just a quick word about me, i usually come back once in a while to play ogame on last universe out, and I play on it for like 3 to 6 weeks maybe. So I never played on a "late game" account but I think I have read enough on the internet to understand how it's like, but that's still why I ask you for your opinons on my thoughts.
(Btw it's not like a suggestion cause it would be too hard to do and not profitable for Gameforge, it's essentially just for fun).
(And obviously everything down here is just my point of view)
So before anything else, I tried listing the problems I see in the game :
- Game is so much P2W
- Beginning early on a server is a massive advantage compared to other and it snwoballs really hard (like it's normal to have an advantage if you're older on the server than others, but I feel like it's near impossible to catch up to others if you begin late)
- Weaker/casual players usually leave quite fast the game
- The community aspect seems pretty bad
So then I focused on causes for those problems :
- Dark matter exists
- The only goal is the point ladder which implies several problems. Point are gain exponentially so it's hard for weaker player to catch up. Also obviously players will seek for the most optimised way to progress which is feed on small fish. WHY ? Because when attacking a weaker player, you literally lose nothing anyway (except deut if he see it coming), because your fleet attack first, while attacking someone at your level is always at a loss.
- Casual players always end up doing a mistake and get recycled by (way) stronger players. If the player is new and didn't build a space dock, then he just lost everything and even if he built it and save around 35% of his fleet, i feel that a lot just question themselves like "Is it even worth it to continue playing the game, being still targeted by those big fish, and probably never be able to catch up to them to get revenge ?". And I assume it's where most people quit (myself included). It seems to me that the only way to potentially have fun in the game in the long run is to start day one on a new universe.
- For alliances, I actually need your opinion on that because i didn't played a lot with other people but its seems it's just used for group attack/def and trading
Now for the dreamed game of mine and the solutions i thought of (assuming GF is not a greedy company which is utopian):
- NO DM lol
- Setting an objective that makes a universe lifespan between 2 to 4 months maybe. It's probably the hardest part to think of but it should be something that requires cooperation between miners and fleeters in an alliance. Once an alliance met the requirement to win, the universe will restart (maybe a day or a week after so people can prepare themselves) and so on. It would bring clear goal and reasons to join an alliance (since it would probably be the only way to win) and it would allow players to focus on a "game" if they have time to, or skip some if they are busy IRL in this period.
- Fights would not be turn based but simultaneous (both fleets fire at the same time then suffer losses) (so that attacking weaker players isn't free anymore). On top of that, to make attacks on bigger players attractive, 80% of the attacking fleet would go in the debris field while 40% of the defending fleet would go in the debris field. And finally, I would make the protection for weaker players depends on your points. For example : you only get 25% of resources of players 4 times weaker than you, 0% for players 10 times weaker than you, and you could not even attack player 20 times weaker than you.
- Because the lifespan of servers would be low, the "miner is better in the long run" strategy would not be relevant anymore, so mines should give way more resources, so the difference in production between a miner and a fleeter has time to be relevant.
There are a lot more things that I thought of but there are not well enough develop for me to tell them, and the post is already long enough.
Obviously, there is still a lot of things to refine but I would be happy to know what you think about it.
And I could really appreciate if you help me think of ways player would break the system, that I haven't thought of.
Thank you for reading to the end .
