I'll preface by saying that I've been playing Ogame since Universe 4 in 2006.
Is the mindset really 'number 1 or bust' these days? Practically nobody will rebuild after being hit, and I'm seeing incredibly built accounts abandoned by the wayside anytime they experience a mild set-back, in the form of being crashed. Top 10-20 players, some with as much as 50 million points, choosing to scrap the account that could have been completely rebuilt in 48 hours or less. It's not just one or two instances, and it seems to be 'the norm.'
There was a time when you could expect a universe to retain a certain level of activity/play-count for several years, and now we can barely make it 3 months? 20+ year old glitches that won't ever be fixed? Introducing a 'class' system and making 1 of them astronomically better than the other 2?
How are new players even finding this game? On what platforms is this game being advertised on these days? It always amazes me that I'm still running into brand new players in 2025
My take: Ogame seems to have adopted only one-half of the 'standard practices' of today's RTS's. Most of those games also regularly introduce new servers, that will only be competitive, in and of themselves, for a short period of time. The key difference is that they generally have activities and events which pit servers with similarly-ranked players against one another in various competitions. I'm not even certain that such a feature could ever be added to Ogame, but it would be a game changer, literally and metaphorically.
