Today's MasterClass: How to Turn Dark Matter into Public Embarrassment

There’s an old saying in OGame that never fails: DM won't buy you skill. But rarely has this principle been so vividly illustrated as in today’s class.

Our featured player, driven by a sudden burst of ambition—or perhaps just a desperate need for attention—decided to acquire enough fleet to reach nine times the size of R3SPAWN fleet, with the help of a friend. All to crash a member of UNiTY. The funniest part? R3SPAWN was online all the time, and yet they didn’t even bother to recall after moon break attempts. That alone speaks lounds about their lack of gameplay fundamentals.

And the irony? Both OnTheQuiet and I were locked in v-mode. (Their tatic was, if they are in v-mode, we try something, if they dont, we crash idle fleets) . Even so, these players voluntarily stepped out of total anonymity to become top-priority targets. From that moment, the outcome was inevitable.

On July 22, I exited v-mode and immediately spotted his dear friend's ("Biggy" mouth, tiny skill) fleet, sitting idle, unguarded—sleeping under the stars, just like he enjoyed crashing others: always uncoordinated, always predictable. His entire strategy was basic: buy deut on the planet, send it to the moon, launch, and pray the target doesn’t log in. But those who play a basic game without even understanding how to fleet properly are destined to make a fatal mistake. And when that happens against someone who lives the game—it’s game over.

As soon as we crashed the so-called “Biggy”—big mouth, tiny skill—it was clear the next step was to target the server’s most ineffective DM burner, M_C. After all, if his buddy gave us the biggest profit in server history, why stop there?

The operation was surgical. As always, OnTheQuiet was flawless. I broke up his FS moons and the fleet was there, spy on slot 16, even with a side-system moon (lol). We synced everything, I converted my share of the loot into fleet, and for the final touch, we hoped his wife would catch him buying even more DM and trigger a real-life crash as well.

To ensure he couldn't defend, we wiped out all his colonies, removing crawler access since his class was General. We followed up with hours of lifeform population kills to temporarily disable his technologies—knowing the population takes time to rebuild. With everything in place, our recycling techniques guaranteed 100% debris recovery, as always.

What remained was the revelation of an amateur—someone who gambled without skill, fell for Biggy’s mouth talk, and burned what he didn’t have. All it took was breaking his moons to expose the lack of any real strategy.

And as M_C picks up the pieces, I can only imagine Medalist’s despair—account banned (and crashed), two of his closest allies crashed within 7 hours, and the loss of his precious Military Destruction rank. Because, as we all know: It’s not enough to destroy the enemy—you must also break their ego.

A warm salute to my four beautifully crashed students:

  • I've got to say you are a decent storyteller 🙂

He didn't even had the chance to enjoy his new additional toys.

It looks that vmode + DM comes together nicely in keid if you know how to use it properly.

    Congrats and enjoy the profits.

FR defender if you choose so.

  • Congratulations on the new NN1 ACS MasterMind. You have spend a ton of money to erase all sizeable fleets from this seasonal uni. Soon the season will be over and most of the uni will go to vmode. You will get a chance to rest and enjoy your investment :) GG

  • What a great crash guys, congratulations!

For me, the funny thing about every crash is that comments appear saying that you're a vmode player, that you're a DM player...

Leaving the fleet sleeping on land and being crashed causing a top 2 ACS, whose fault is it? If you did FS, would the vmode player break the fleet…

Making a top 1 ACS because a player of this caliber does dirty FS spying slot 16, is it the vmode player's fault…

It's only democratic when everyone spends the same amount of DM, otherwise you become a DM player, but what was all the DM worth if experienced players knew how to do FS?

I don't spend DM, and many times I've seen top players, colonize on my SS, mobilize fleet under my moon, make quick attacks, attempts to take down my moons, TOM95 colonized SS 3 times in one day to attack me, KIM and Jericho spying for the Medalist attack me, I don't remember being crashed... what was the DM worth? I have to give Mastermind a point, DM doesn't buy skills...

Now you can say what you want, give me the same and never forget, the Titanic was also big and sank on the first trip

  • It was fun as always, thanks the invitation! (:

    about dm...

Most of the playerbase is an adult with enough life-experience to calculate what is the amount what not hurt them. You have no reason to worried about strangers spending or complain about it is worth it.
We all play with this game to reach different goals. Many players just cant finish the seasonal achivements because one mistake and someone just crash them back to stoneage. We should ask it every single time it is worth it to spend thier 2 months for "nothing"? I dont think so its a great idea.

I did spend 375 euro on the server. For me, it was worth it.

    Fr def.

  • Well tbh onthequiet, nonody gives a potato about the amount spend, like you said what is considered alot of money is personal. The difference between you and him is that you are not running around posting stuff like

    Quote

While some players spend a fortune on the game, we stick to the basics — proving that money can’t buy skill.

But I guess that is what happens once you reach GOAT status :tongue3:

  • Congrats for the hit, specially to OnTheQuiet.
At the end of the day both players involved are top tier and that is what makes the hit very impressive.
    Also the profit was astronomical!
FR to the defender, we need great players on the server.

  • Not surprised they threw so many MDs at me. When your entire game revolves around fleetsaving to slot 16 and you still think that makes you a “skilled” player, it’s only natural to assume everyone else is dumb enough to do the same.

And as for Dark Matter? Yeah, I use it — just like everyone else. I’m not gonna cry about others outspending me. They insta-built a 90B fleet, sure... but it didn’t change the outcome of that night. You can bully and bash a smaller account, but if they know how to proper FS it wont change the outcome.

It was a fun server — probably dead now. Can’t really see anyone stepping up with new fleets after this.

GG’s to Mastermid and OnTheQuiet. Honestly, this was always the expected ending. Just didn’t think it would come this soon — and definitely not with both of the top 2 fleets gone in a single night.

    :hail::hail::hail:

  • I went for a walk to call MasterMind Tuesday evening after having put the kids to bed, the wife had seemed concerned lately and was displeased with my relentless conversational initiatives towards her regarding the master, she had started referring to him as "that man from the phone".

"It's just a game" she said, of course she wouldn't understand, it would be foolish of me to expect her to. Many people had previously attempted to downplay the genius of the master, by making similar claims. But it was never going to stop me from sneaking out and calling him.

MasterMind sounded happy on the phone, as it turns out his plans had all but come to fruition. After a successful attack on Biggy, many people would have assumed the master would do the inevitable and toggle vmode back on instantly.

But MasterMind had other plans, and after a successful MD mission on the former goat Michael Corleone, the master had struck gold yet again. This time alongside a quiet one of his disciples, whose only skill is catching idle fleets and buying DM, as the master himself told us in a previous post.

He sent me the CR and i couldn't believe my eyes, another 700k reapers had been insta'd, a fine addition to his already extensive collection.

I asked him how come he had decided to leave the shadows, without a pack event present. I heard a chuckle, "Maybe the real event is the packs we bought along the way" he replied. I was out of words, i had never thought about it in that way.

Vaguely remembering the conversation from our last discourse, i congratulated the master on having been approved at Mensa, a valuable acquisition for their organizational resume, i thought. The master cut me off, he told me that apparently his approval was pending an in-house IQ test, to which he understandably took great offense upon learning.

Infuriated hearing this, i felt it was in its place to apologize on their behalf. The master accepted the apology, before informing me he had to leave.

It turns out that on very short notice, MasterMind was forced to vmode as through his relentless volunteer work, he was being sent on a humanitarian mission to Haiti to promote diversity and inclusion, while also fighting world hunger.

FR Def, GG MasterCard - Have a wonderful trip!

  • Stop going around spewing nonsense. I'm not the player called M_C. I haven't even played this uni for more than a month already.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer..
