Catch up Mechanic

    I was looking at the rank 10-20 players in my uni and that lower ranked players are to far behind and perhaps that will impact their will to continue playing on.

    I would like to give the following idea.


    Based on the points of the rank 1 player other players get a bonus to their playstyle.

    In my uni we have a guy wih 300bn points which is insane to this day.


    There is no way to catch up to him ofcourse but the lower ranked players will have a better time building their accounts when they have acces to more resources.

    I would like to propose a catch-up mechanic where is that for lets say every 10bn points of rank 1 the below rank 20 players will get a 10% boost to their race playstyle. So for Collector their mining production is boosted by 10% and for disco the expedition results are boosted by 10%.

    With the rank 1 being 300bn points the bonus to these players would be 300% more income.


    The general class however is more difficult to have bonusses for. Perhaps we can boost the way a LF has a chance to kill a Deathstar. Making DMing lower ranked players more risky when that player has more LF's in his fleet.

    increased combat research, for 300% this would be 6 ranks and more speed with his fleet.


    Rank 20 and up will have a reduced % based and top 10 has no bonus anymore.

    This way the rank 10 will get no benefit out of this change and all lower ranked players do get a huge boost to their playstyle making it more fun to do things on their accounts and easier to build up.

    The bonus depends on your class you have selected. once you choose another class another bonus takes effect and you lose the one from the previous class.

  • I like the idea, though maybe the numbers need to be tweaked, 300% seems like a lot. But this would mean middle ranked players wouldn't need to buy as many packs to catch up and thus less GF income so I don't see it happening. Still interesting idea

  • I like the idea but why do you think GF would implament this? This is working against all the whales and the money they spend. Do you think they are spending money so you can have a better and fair game? Don't kid yourself, the reason whales pack is so they become OP so they can stomp everyone if they wish so beside few other whales on the top. If any whale tells you otherwise he is lying. Why would they spend money on this game if the benefits they get won't give them those benefits since everyone below them is automatically becoming stronger as they grow which diminishes their "investement".


    Expo scaling would be great for all. Not sure about mines tho

    Expo does scale already with #1 but it is capped early on. If im not wrong as soon as #1 gets 100mil points you get max find already right? So you would suggest uncapped scaling? This would bring expo results to OP heights if done wrong. But i like the idea of getting a "new cap" if #1 has 1bil+, 100bil+, 200bil+ etc...

  • Why should people who spend little to no money benefit just because someone was willing to spend a lot of money on their game account?


    There's already a catch up mechanic within the game...its called spending money.

    You make a good point and i would counter it to it would not matter for a whale.

    Whale gets instant results while the rest get long term results. It would not benefit the whale if people leave the uni they have invested so much money in. This will also hurt Ogame overal ofcourse.


    I think current cap is at 100mill, it needs to be raised so smaller players get more benefits. This should be ranked based so top 20 players receive little benefit from this.

    there needs to be benefits for other playstyles aswell.



    With increased production on mines, increased finds or more smaller fleeters the top 20 indirectly gets to benefit from this aswell since there is a higher influx of resources on the lower end of the uni resulting in more targets. The whale gets to benefit from this aswell. Just as with everything.

  • Like the idea but would suggest the following:


    LR: Lower Rank Points

    HR: Highest Rank Points


    Percent boost=100*(1-LR/HR)


    So using this formula lets compare four players.

    1st rank at 100 points

    10th rank at 50 points

    50th rank at 10 points

    100th rank at 1 point


    1st Rank gets 100*(1-100/100)=0%

    10th Rank gets 100*(1-50/100)=5%

    50th Rank gets 100*(1-50/100)=90%

    100th Rank gets 100*(1-50/100)=99%


    This means that the limit is capped at 100% of ability, and has the biggest impact on the largest disparity, scaling down smoothly.

    Player opens dozens of accounts one after the other builds them for a few days logs out opens another repeats another repeats untill they have 6 or 7 multis

    that are left to go inactive near them as friend accounts that spawn near them. for farms that gain the higher resource production.

  • I like this idea of the catchup mechanic and I like how Godiva formulated it, I think its a very nice mechanic that could bring more life to ogame.

    Having the expo cap raised would also be beneficial to a lot of starting players, looking at mmorpg UK ranking i think max cap should be at 500bn or 1tn points

    Also Dreadnought I understand your point of view, but maybe we can solve this by making the boost only avaible for players who don't have inactive status?

    Easy fix for that is to make it so boost doesn't apply to inactives.


    Also even people do that, the account are open for everyone to farm, so it would still help the universe stay alive at least.
