Ever since the mechanics overhaul, I’ve been wanting to test a moon destruction (MD) with the new turtle speed to see if it’s still viable.
Turns out it is… but mostly against people who don’t use a safe system and enjoy healthy sleep schedules.
So basically, not us.
I teamed up with Nekkar, since the player who inherited the account a few weeks ago is none other than ONLiNe - my in-system buddy since day one.
Liawi turned out to be the perfect test subject. He only had one moon and, for some mysterious reason, never got another.
First, the original Nekkar dropped a colony into his system and tried to catch him the traditional way.
Then the new Nekkar (ONLiNe) gave it a few attempts as well.
I also joined the club and tried from the next system - also no luck.
Somehow, Liawi kept slipping away.
So we decided to do something radical: observe.
That’s when we discovered his biggest weakness - a full 9 hours of sleep. Honestly, respect! Couldn’t be me.
That gave us our window - time for an MD.
Since Nekkar only had 36 RIPs (budget MD edition), I moved into system with a mobile as soon as Liawi logged off, deployed my RIPs, and launched a 5.5h MD. The timing would land close to his wake-up, but since he liked his ~10h fleet returns, everything lined up nicely.
There was a bit of defense on the moon, so we politely removed it with IPMs to make sure Nekkar’s 6 waves of 6 RIPs could do their thing without tripping over plasmas.
In the end, we got quite lucky - Nekkar popped the moon while losing only 6 RIPs.
At that point, we still had nearly 3 hours before the fleet landed.
To stay under the radar, I generously gifted Liawi a brand new moon (8944 fields!) to cover the destruction.
We then launched fleets and recyclers at +0s, leaving Trico, the well-known hit stealer, absolutely no chance this time.
Not that it mattered… he was asleep too.
Liawi logged in about an hour before impact, built a few rocket launchers… and logged off again.
He didn’t even bother saving his expo fleets that arrived before the main fleet.
So I guess this might be the last we see of him. A shame, really, the uni is already dying faster than RIPs to plasmas.
Big thanks to Nekkar for the teamwork, and to Og/DarkGhost, Fearm3, and Lanz for the moonshots!
I don’t think I’ve ever had three people shooting at me at the same time - 10/10 would recommend. 🙂
This is the second ACS hit on Liawi, and it will push our previous one with Og (from almost two months ago) out of the Top 10 ACS. I guess it’s only fair.
