Like all of us, they let their ego get the best of them. I don't think it is a choice, on their part, but rather the inability to recognize themselves in the moment. Cillidan trolls just the same as everybody else, even at a glance it is obvious. They are humans, they will have emotions, and they will express them, whether sarcastically or impulsively. They will create connections and relationships here, and have a hard time setting their own emotions aside when it comes to objectively analyzing the community and being impartial in passing judgement.
Some do it better than others, for example, Cassandra Vandales is just some mother located in Eastern Europe. The boards are her way of feeling more useful on a broader scale, than she does in her own life. When she was younger she let her ego get in the way of making sound decisions, she certainly has gotten better at it.
More or less, yet there are other reasons too, such as projection, feelings of inadequacy, etc.
Regardless, that fact alone is pretty much the reason I told you that it isn't really worth bothering trying to have a conversation with most people here. Some are genuinely responsive, and enjoy being helpful, like yourself; others enjoy being spiteful, creating misery, because it's socially reinforced and validated by those that they've already formed bonds with.
In short, you can presume a lot of people on here are just like E. Self-interested and indulgent.
